UNiforms & Gear

  • What uniform does my child need?

  • What are the sport-specific requirements ?

    Uniform Colors by Sport:

    • Soccer/Indoor Soccer: Red / White
    • Flag Football: Blue / Gray
    • Volleyball: Blue / Red
    • Basketball: Green / White
    • Cross Country: Varies by branch
  • Does the YMCA provide uniforms, or do I need to order one?

    • Soccer/Indoor Soccer: Shinguards required; rubber cleats suggested for outdoor soccer, sneakers or indoor soccer shoes required for indoor soccer.
    • Flag Football: Break-away flag belts required; rubber cleats suggested.
    • Indoor Sports (Basketball, Volleyball, Indoor Soccer): Sneakers required; Crocs not allowed.
    • Volleyball: Knee pads and arm sleeves suggested. Sneakers required; Crocs not allowed.

    Clinics & Classes: No uniform required; dress guidance provided before the session begins.

  • Can I buy a uniform from the YMCA?

  • Do I need to buy a new uniform if I already have one?

    • Ball Sizes:
      • Preschool 3s–Pre-K: Size 3
      • Grades 2–5: Size 4
      • Grades 6–8: Size 5

    Flag Football: YMCA uniform, black shorts and socks, flag belt required, rubber-soled cleats suggested.

    Volleyball: YMCA uniform, athletic bottoms required and sneakers required (no Crocs), knee pads & sleeves suggested, volleyball recommended (Volley Lite or Soft Touch).

    Basketball: YMCA uniform, black shorts & socks, sneakers required (no Crocs), basketball recommended.

    • Ball Sizes:
      • K–1st: Junior (27.5”)
      • Grades 2–5: Intermediate (28.5”)
      • Grades 6–7 Girls/Coed: Intermediate (28.5”)
      • Grades 6-9 Girls: Intermediate (28.5″)
      • Grades 6–7 Boys: Official (29.5”)
      • Grades 8-10: Official (29.5”)

    Cheerleading: YMCA cheer uniform, sneakers.

    Dance: Recommended attire is all black with ballet shoes OR pink tights/ black leotard/ballet shoes.

registration & Team Placement

  • Can my child play in a different age group?

  • How do I cancel my child’s registration?

    • If you withdraw from a class or program more than one week (8 or more days) before the start of the class or program, you are entitled to receive a full refund or credit.
    • If you withdraw from a class or program 1-to-7 days before the start of the class or program, you are entitled to receive a 50% refund or credit.
    • If you withdraw from a class or program on or after the start of the class, you are not entitled to receive a refund or credit unless you provide a doctor’s verification of a medical condition that would prohibit participation in the class or activity. This must be submitted to the program director.

Rosters, schedules and communication

  • When will I get my child’s roster and schedule?

  • Will my child have a practice, and what day will it be?

  • How do I find my child’s schedule?

  • My schedule says “game vs. no name team” — what does that mean?

  • I haven’t received an email from PlayerSpace — what should I do?

Games & Practices

  • Where are games played?

  • Where do I sit to watch my child’s game, practice or clinic?

    • YMCA Policy: Parents of children under age 12 must remain onsite for the entire practice or game. Please stay nearby in case your child needs assistance (e.g., restroom).
    • Basketball, Volleyball & Indoor Soccer: Seating varies by location. Some gyms do not have bleachers, so bringing a chair is encouraged. As with outdoor sports, spectators should not stand behind goals or follow players up and down the court.
  • Can I drop off my child for practices, games, or clinics?

  • Will games or practices be cancelled for bad weather?

  • Will my child play in the end-of-season tournament?

Volunteering & contact

  • Do I need experience to be a volunteer coach?

  • My child can only practice on certain days — what should I do?

    Practice days are set by volunteer coaches and will not be available until schedules and rosters are released (the Friday one week before the season starts).

    • Preschool–1st grade: Practices are built into game time
    • Grades 2nd and up: One weeknight practice per week during spring, fall and winter leagues

    Check your confirmation email for instructions on submitting practice-day conflicts.
