John Rolfe Family YMCA - Closing October 31, 2025

Q: Why is this YMCA location closing?

A: We worked diligently to reach an agreement with the building owner. However, the lease terms would have required the Y to take on significant costs for an aging facility. This level of expense would not have been a responsible use of member and donor resources.

Q: When will the branch close?

A: The John Rolfe Family YMCA will close on October 31, 2025.

Q: Where can I continue my YMCA membership?

A: Your membership is valid at all YMCA branches. We especially encourage you to visit the newly renovated Tuckahoe Family YMCA or explore our other locations, many of which offer expanded spaces and programs.

Q: Do I need to make changes to my membership?

A: No action is needed. Your membership automatically provides access to all 16 YMCA locations.

Q: Will my rate increase?

A: As a thank-you for your loyalty, we will lock in your current John Rolfe membership rate through October 2026. In addition, we will waive the $20 Annual Maintenance Fee that would normally be charged in October 2025.

Q: What happens to the programs I’m enrolled in?

A: Our team will contact you directly with details about program transitions to nearby branches. We are committed to making your experience as seamless as possible.

Q: Will staff be available to help me during this transition?

A: Yes. John Rolfe staff will remain on-site through October 31 to answer questions, provide support, and help with your transition. Many John Rolfe staff will also join teams at our other branches.

Q: What happens to my wellness classes and my instructors?

A: Our John Rolfe instructors and wellness staff will continue teaching at other YMCA locations. Updated schedules will be shared so you can stay connected to the programs and people you value.

Q: How will staff be impacted by this closure?

A: No staff positions will be eliminated as a result of this closure.  We will work with each staff member to place them in roles at one of our other locations that best match their skills, schedules and preferences.

Q: How will I stay informed about updates?

A: Updates will be shared through email, our website, and at the John Rolfe branch leading up to the closure. Staff members are also available to answer questions directly.

Q: Will there be changes to hours or programs at Tuckahoe or Shady Grove because of this transition?

A: Both branches have recently expanded and renovated to serve more members. Additional classes and programs may be added based on member needs.
