Free Group Exercise

As a YMCA member, you have access to hundreds of FREE included group exercise classes each week at any of our YMCA locations.

At the YMCA, all of our group exercise classes are included with your YMCA membership.  Take a class at any of our 16 locations no matter where you find yourself in the Richmond area.

Click Schedules (at the top of every page on our website) for specific class offerings at each location or download our YMCA app.

To ensure the best experience for everyone, please adhere to the following guidelines when participating in Group Exercise classes:

  • Reservations required to ensure your spot in Group Exercise classes.
  • Your reservation may be forfeited at the start of class if you're not present.
  • Entrance into class 5 minutes after the start of class is at the instructor's discretion to ensure safety and minimize class disruption.
  • No food or drink containers (other than water bottles) are allowed in class.
  • Please turn cellphone sound off and take conversations outside of class if necessary.
  • Youth ages 9-14 must wear a Youth Fitness badge when participating in classes.  Ages 8 and below are allowed to participate in Kids & Family classes.

CARDIO CLASSES

Classic Cardio  Choreographed cardio routine combining low impact exercises with highly intensive cardio movement.

Insanity® Mix it up with plyometrics and other body weight exercises to maximize your cardio fitness.

Step Improve your coordination and cardiovascular health using a step while moving to upbeat music.

CYCLE CLASSES

Beginner Cycle Beginner/Introductory Class. A cardiovascular workout on a stationary bike matching your optimal fitness level to reach your goals.

Cycle Strength  Improve your fitness in a jamming cycle and strength training class.

GEAR Cycle   A cardiovascular workout on a stationary bike matching your optimal fitness level to reach your goals.

DANCE CLASSES

Bolly X  A Bollywood-inspired dance-fitness program that combines dynamic choreography with the hottest music from around the world. The cardio workout cycles between higher and lower-intensity dance sequences to get you moving.

Cardio Dance Burn calories learning choreographed moves to fun, upbeat music.

Hip Hop A funky, street-style dance workout that torches calories to hip hop, pop and R&B music.

Line Dancing Improve cardio by learning different line dances to fun music while meeting new friends.

POUND® A cardio jam session inspired by playing the drums with the use of Ripstix®, weighted drumsticks specifically to improve fitness.

Werq® Wildly addictive cardio dance workout with the freshest steps based on the hottest pop and hip hop music.

Zumba® Have fun dancing your way to fitness to Latin, Hip Hop or Reggaetón music.

INTERVAL/FUSION CLASSES

Boot Camp Intense workout involves militaristic, calisthenic and anaerobic exercises with use of your own body weight, and equipment. Please bring a mat.

Cardio Strength Mix it up with intervals alternating between strength training exercises and "non dance based" cardio movements. Please bring a mat.

Circuit Training   Move through a series of exercises alternating strength and/or cardio activities, can be performed using varied equipment and/or machines to improve your muscular endurance or cardiovascular endurance.

HIIT Improve your aerobic capacity while burning calories doing bouts of intense exercise followed by periods of rest and recovery. Please bring a mat.

Step Strength  Get your cardio in with timed intervals of step and strength training to increase lean muscle mass

TRX Bootcamp A total body workout for advanced levels to build strength, balance, and cardio while working multiple muscles combining intervals of body weight exercises and cardio.

Y Elite Members push themselves to their absolute limits and then beyond to achieve tiers of fitness most people think are impossible. Individuals must take and pass the entrance exam for continued participation. The entrance exam is to ensure that the class is the right fit for each individual. 

MARTIAL ARTS CLASSES

BODYCOMBAT™ Les Mills high energy martial arts inspired workout that is totally non-contact. Learn moves from Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Muay Thai, Capoeira and Kung Fu.

Kickboxing A martial arts inspired cardio workout that involves punching and kicking moves to torch calories.

Tai Chi A martial arts class focusing on improving balance, increasing flexibility and reducing stress.

MIND BODY FLEXIBILITY CLASSES

Barre A ballet inspired workout using the ballet barre or a chair to improve strength, balance and coordination. Please bring a mat.

Barre (Live/Streamed) A ballet inspired workout using the ballet barre or a chair to improve strength, balance and coordination. Please bring a mat. The class will be Live Streamed on Facebook. This reservation is for the live in person class.

BODYFLOW™ Les Mills yoga-based class that will improve your mind, your body and your life. An inspired soundtrack plays as you bend and stretch through a series of simple yoga moves and embrace elements of Tai Chi and Pilates.

Meditation This class will practice techniques such as mindfulness or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity to train attention and awareness to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.

Pilates This class focuses on core strengthening, stretching, correct posture, and breathing. Equipment may be used. Please bring a mat.

PiYo®   This fast paced class combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility of flowing yoga movement to achieve your cardio, strength and flexibility goals all in one class. Please bring a mat.

STRENGTH CLASSES

Body Sculpt  Strength training class using varied equipment such as body bars, dumbbells, stability balls, kettlebells, & tubes. Please bring a mat.

Core A class dedicated to strengthening the core muscles. Body weight and/or equipment could be used. Please bring a mat.

LES MILLS CORE   A Les Mills short and sharp core workout that will inspire you to the next level of fitness, while strengthening and toning your body.

BODYPUMP™ Les Mills strength training that will strengthen, tone, increase endurance, shape lean muscle, and maintain bone health.  Equipment used include barbells, plates, and a height-adjustable step.

TRX A total body workout for all levels to build strength, balance, and flexibility while working multiple muscles at the same time using your own body weight.

YOGA CLASSES

Gentle Yoga   A yoga class that offers a gentle form of yoga practice designed for beginners or those with a more meditative focus. Please bring a mat.

Hatha Yoga   A yoga class that focuses on breathing while learning basic yoga postures. Please bring a mat.

Power Yoga    A challenging yoga class will allow you to move through an advanced sequence of yoga postures. Please bring a mat.

Restorative Yoga This yoga class is designed to hold poses for much longer periods of time than traditional yoga, as well as engaging in deep relaxation and meditation.

Vinyasa Yoga   A yoga class that is for intermediate to advanced participants moving into specific core strengthening poses throughout the class.

Yin Yoga   A yoga class that focuses on passive poses holding for longer periods of time. Please bring a mat.

YOUTH AND FAMILY CLASSES

Family Boot Camp For families with youth ages 4 and older.  Youth must be accompanied by an adult. Intense workout involves militaristic, callisthenic and anaerobic exercises with use of your own body weight, equipment and partnered exercises. 

Family Yoga For families with youth ages 4 and older.  Youth must be accompanied by an adult. A yoga class that offers a gentle form of yoga practice designed for beginners or those with a more meditative focus. 

Family Zumba For families with youth ages 4 and older.  Youth must be accompanied by an adult. Have fun dancing your way to fitness to Latin, Hip Hop or Reggaetón music. 

Kid's Boot Camp Age 6 - 12. This combines strength and cardio drills and can be outdoors or indoors.

Kid Fit Ages 6- 12. Fun filled class designed with cardio games and intervals just for this age group.

Kid Yoga Ages 6 - 12. Gentle class which teaches basic yoga movements specified for young children.

Zumba ® Kids Designed specifically for kids age 6 - 12, Zumba Kids classes are rocking high energy, fitness parties packed with specialty choreographed, kid friendly routines and all the music kids love..

ACTIVE ADULT CLASSES

Active Adult Walking Group Meet at your YMCA to join other members for a walk in your community. Contact the branch for more details.

Chair Yoga Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing poses with a chair as an option to increase flexibility, balance, & range of motion.

Gentle Cardio   A gentle aerobic workout that includes easy-to-follow, low-impact movement, balance, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercises.

Gentle Fusion An energetic mix of cardio and strength exercises designed to be safe and gentle on the joints. A chair is offered for support if needed.

Gentle Strength Increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living in this gentle strength class with a chair as an option.

Zumba® Gold Have fun dancing your way to fitness to Latin, Hip Hop or Reggaetón music with modified moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active adult.
