YMCA 10k Training – Week One

February 2nd, 2016

Nikkia became a Richmond favorite when she finished the Richmond Marathon last year – one hour after it ended. But Nikkia was determined to cross the finish line, and she did with fans cheering and local media giving her some publicity. Nikkia’s journey to living a healthy life continues and she’s doing it with the YMCA and the 10k Training Team. Follow her story each week and be inspired to #FindYourPlace!

What Nikkia says about taking the first step:

“Two years ago, I found myself getting ready for my first 10k Training Team run. I had no clue how that first step and first mile would change my future. From that first team run I was completely hooked and have since gone on to tackle all types of races and distances. Fast forward to now, I have the amazing opportunity to assist in coaching the Manchester YMCA and help others reach their goal of completing the Monument 10k!

A 10k is like the ‘Goldilocks’ distance. Not too long, not too short and it is something to be proud of no matter if you walk, jog or run it! The hardest part is getting started but that is made so much easier by joining the YMCA 10k Training Team. Not only do you get a training plan, shirt, coaches and routes, you also get the support of a team and an entry into the event on April 9th… not a bad deal at all. You also get a card that is good for 10 trips to the YMCA of your choice to help you get your cross training in on days that you need a break from running.

It’s not too late to sign up!! So what are you waiting for? Come out and join a YMCA 10k Training Team near you, you will not regret it!
