After I finished the NYC Marathon this past Sunday, I was asked by a reporter if there was any point where I thought I would quit. My response was “Well you make a choice, and I decided to keep going”. I never really thought about it before but regardless of what your goal may be you need make one choice: to see that goal to the end. Its is not always going to easy and it might not always go to plan.
I train hard for my goal races. I follow the plans, do my workouts and try to recover well. However, you do not train so the task at hand is easy – you train so that you can tolerate what comes your way on race day. During my race I had some obstacles I was not expecting. But I made a choice to reach my goal, no matter what.
For those of you taking on the Richmond Marathon Races this weekend, think back to why you have this goal. Think about all the work you have put in and what reaching that goal will mean for you. So when things get tough, remember your choice and chase that goal to the finish line.
