Class Offerings

At the YMCA, all of our group exercise classes are included with your YMCA membership.  Take a class at any of our 16 locations no matter where you find yourself in the Richmond area.

Click the “Schedules” link (at the top of every page on our website) for specific class offerings at each location and to find out which classes require reservation. All classes are 1 hour or are labeled Express for a quick 30-minute workout for those tight on time.

Inclusive group exercise classes are taught at a pace for all abilities to enjoy.  Located at the Patrick Henry Family YMCA, these classes are offered in partnership with Hanover ARC twice a month.  Examples include Zumba Gold, Gentle Strength, POUND, Chair Yoga and Water Fitness.

Non-YMCA members are welcome, but will need to arrive early to complete the necessary paperwork.  Contact Ann Senz for additional information and to register for these classes.


Living healthy is about spirit, mind and body at every age and stage. The Y offers a variety of mind/body classes to help you relax, strengthen, stretch and improve flexibility. 


Pilates  Class focuses on core strengthening, stretching, correct posture, and breathing. 

Body Flow  Embrace parts of yoga, tai-chi and pilates with  BODYFLOW, a relaxing class that builds strength and improves flexibility  

Tai Chi  Great for improving balance, increasing flexibility and reducing stress.


Power  This challenging class will allow you to move through an advanced sequence of yoga postures.  

Yin  Yin focuses on passive poses holding for longer periods of time.

Hatha  This form of yoga focuses on breathing while learning basic yoga postures.  

Vinyasa  This yoga class is for intermediate to advanced participants moving into specific core strengthening poses throughout the class.


Using the ballet barre the core and legs are strengthened and your balance and coordination are challenged.



Boot Camp  Intense workout involves militaristic, calisthetic and anaerobic exercises with use of your own body weight, equipment and partnered exercises, quite different than your fitness conditioning style classes.

RIPPED  A total body workout utilizing combing Resistance, Intervals, Power, Plyometrics, and Endurance components.

Insanity  High intensity cardio workout that involves plyometrics and other body weight exercises

PiYo  This class combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility of flowing yoga movement.  Uses body weight to perform continuous targeted moves. Class offered with a YMCA instructor.


Zumba  High intensity workout is geared for the individual who wants to burn calories and move to the sound of latin music, 1 hour.

Line Dance  Low impact floor aerobics class involving all traditional types of line dance with the specific matched music, 45 minutes.

Cardio Dance  Learn exciting new dance routines involving choreographed material.

Burn & Tone  Hi/Low, cardio or step, and stength workout. 1 hour



CXWORX  Build your core strength and tone your abs, butt and legs with  CXWORX, a 30-minute workout focused on your core 

Balance & Core  45-minute class utilizing exercises that focus on strengthening the muscles that help us with balance & posture. 

Total Core  A class dedicated to strengthening the abdominals plus the lower back.  Decrease your chance of lower back injury as you improve your trunk stability.


Body Pump  Les Mills strength training that will strengthen, tone, increase endurance, shape lean muscle, and maintain bone health.  Equipment used include barbells, plates, and a height-adjustable step.  (XP=45min)

Body Sculpt  Strength training class using varied equipment such as body bars, dumbbells, stability balls, kettlebells, & tubes.

TRX  A Workout for all levels using your own body weight to build strength, balance, and flexibility while working multiple muscles at the same time. The class will provide a total body working while activating the core muscles in every exercise.


Cycle offers a non-impact cardiovascular workout on a stationary bike.  The YMCA of Great Richmond offers a GEAR Cycle training system which delivers real-time color coded biofeedback to the user with five color training zones: white, blue, green, yellow and red to maximize training results.


HIIT   Improve your aerobic capacity while burning calories doing bouts of intense exercise followed by periods of rest and recovery.


Kid Fit  Ages 6- 12. Fun filled class designed with cardio games and intervals just for this age group, 45 minutes.

Family Classes  For Families with youth starting at age 6. We offer a variety of class offerings for the family to enjoy together including Zumba, bootcamp and more.


Body Combat  High-energy martial-arts inspired non-contact workout with no complex moves to master.

Cardio Box  Choreographed high energy cardio class that incorporates boxing techniques. May include jump rope, pads, & gloves. 1 hour


Aqua Boot Camp  A high intensity, shallow water class designed to challenge even the most fit member!  This class incorporates both cardio and toning components by using the water’s resistance and equipment.  This class is a great addition to your cross-training fitness routine.  No swimming ability is required.

Aqua Zumba   (High Intensity) A workout geared to those who want to burn some calories, dance in the water, and move to the sounds of Latin music. All Levels.

Arthritis   A recreational exercise program designed to accommodate the abilities of individuals with arthritis and other related diseases.  Taught in a group setting with activities and exercises to encourage self care, provide social interaction, improve muscular strength, endurance and flexibility, maintain independence, manage pain and relieve symptoms of arthritis.

H2O Pump   Designed to burn fat, strengthen muscles and build endurance.  This class includes an intense cardiovascular component followed by a strength-training segment possibly utilizing a variety of equipment.

Just My Speed   Geared towards the beginning exerciser, pre & post natal mom or if recovering from an injury, this full body workout is just what you need!  The class includes a warm-up, a 30-minute cardiovascular section, toning and a cool down/stretching segment.


Gentle Cardio  Get Up & Go with an aerobics class for you – safe, heart-healthy and gentle on the joints. The workout includes easy-to-follow low-impact movement, and upper-body strength, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercises designed to energize your active lifestyle.

Gentle Strength  Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

Chair Yoga  Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement.

Zumba Gold  Targets the largest growing segment of the population baby boomers. It takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active adult participant as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle.
