Registration for YMCA members begins February 1 and for non-YMCA members on February 15.


Camp Shady Grove

Camp Shady Grove offers a traditional outdoor summer camp day camp experience! Our trained and certified staff will work with each child in a small group setting. They will build relationships, foster a sense of belonging and create opportunities for each of our campers to achieve and learn.  We offer a wide range of engaging specialist activities, 30 minutes of reading every day, as well as character development and swim lessons. Every week has a fun and exciting theme with an educational focus and exciting twist. YMCA Camp Shady Grove you belong here!

A typical day at Camp Shady Grove may include:

  • Camp Arts: creative arts, camp songs & skits, music, drama & dance
  • Outdoor Sports: archery (basic and advanced), sports & field games, gaga ball, low ropes course
  • Outdoor Education: nature, STEM activities
  • Aquatics: swim lessons, free swim

Ages: Rising K – 5th graders
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 17
YMCA Member: $196 per week   Non-Member: $250 per week

Leaders in Training Plus (LIT Plus) at Shady Grove

The LITs of Camp Shady Grove participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to leadership development. Lessons focus on the progression from personal development and exploring many leaderships styles and learning what works for you.

A typical day at Leaders in Training may include:

  • Camp Arts: artistic expression through camp songs & skits, music, theater, dance, traditional art and crafts
  • Outdoor Sports: archery (basic and advanced), sports & field games, teambuilding activities, gaga ball, basketball, soccer, baseball, ropes course and more
  • Outdoor Education: hiking, Wonders of Wilderness specialist, geography, topography, weather studies
  • Aquatics: Swimming

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 17
YMCA Member: $205 per week   Non-Member: $260 per week

Camper In Leadership Training (CILT) at Shady Grove

The Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) program is designed to teach and inspire rising 9th and 10th graders. Hands-on training experiences and professional development workshops provide the foundation of the program. Participants will learn basic safety, group control, games, camp best practices and engage in activities that provide valuable employment skills, healthy relationship and opportunities to lead.

Ages: Rising 9th – 10th grade
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 4 two-week sessions beginning July 1
YMCA Members: $180 per session   Non-Members: $199 per session

Shady Grove Sports Camps

Sports Camps provide an introductory, fun experience for participants.  Featured sports include soccer, flag football, basketball, wiffleball, volleyball, kickball, dodgeball, and capture-the-flag.  Campers will be divided by similar ages, will rotate through drill and skill stations, and enjoy Friday Tournament day to scrimmage against other teams!  Bring a peanut/tree-nut free snack, sunscreen, and wear athletic clothes and sneakers.

Ages: 4 – 12 years old
Times: 9 a.m. – noon
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 17
Member: $95  Non-Member: $155

Shady Grove Kinder Camp

Kinder Camp is a week of art, singing, games, learning centers, cooking and outdoor play built around weekly themes. Bring a peanut/tree nut-free snack. We provide curbside service. Campers must be independently potty trained.

A complete camp licensing packet must be turned in to the branch to finalize your registration.

Ages: 3 – 6 years old
Times: 9 a.m. – noon
Dates: 12 one-week sessions beginning June 3
YMCA Member: $95 per week  Non-Member: $155 per week

Final Four is our post-camp experience* that happens the week after camp ends and before school begins. It runs Monday through Thursday at Camp Thunderbird!  We offer bus stops at Tuckahoe, Shady Grove, Downtown, Midlothian and Manchester. Come celebrate the end of summer at Camp Thunderbird with swimming, fishing, gaga, crafts, reading and a few more surprises!

Ages: Rising K – 8th grade
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: August 26 – 29
YMCA Members: $180   Non-Members: $209

*Camp activities and availability will be adjusted due to staffing during this week.  

Bus Pick-Ups available at the Shady Grove Family YMCA, Tuckahoe Family YMCA and Millworks Center (across Woolridge Rd from the Midlothian Family YMCA).
