Are you READY for summer? Get SET, because the Chickahominy Family YMCA is ready to CAMP! From child care to youth sports to a more rustic experience, there is a camp for you! At the Chickahominy Family YMCA, we believe in building strong kids, strong families and strong communities through programs that encourage a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Summer camp has come to a close.  But read below what exciting programs we offered.  Program offerings, prices and other details may change in 2019.

Registration for YMCA members begins February 1 and for non-YMCA members on February 15.


Camp Chickahominy

Camp Chickahominy offers a traditional outdoor summer camp day camp experience! Our trained and certified staff will work with each child in a small group setting. They will build relationships, foster a sense of belonging and create opportunities for each of our campers to achieve and learn.  We offer a wide range of engaging specialist activities, 30 minutes of reading every day, as well as character development and swim lessons. Every week has a fun and exciting theme with an educational focus and exciting twist. YMCA Camp Chickahominy you belong here!

A typical day at Camp Chickahominy might include:

  • Creative Arts: Explore your creative side with painting, drawing, building, and so much more.
  • Target Sports: Archery, Slingshots, and Riflery (rising 5th and up)
  • WOW (Wonders of Wilderness): A mixture of nature and science activities.
  • MAD (Music and Drama): Songs, Skits, Music, Dance, and Drama.
  • Daily Swim lessons and free swim Fridays!
  • Sports: Basketball, Football, Soccer… to name a few!
  • Teambuilding activities to build confidence, cooperation, communication, and more.
  • 30 minutes of reading daily.

Ages: Rising K – 5th graders
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $138 per week   Non-Member: $161 per week

After Summer School Camp - Highland Springs Elementary

If your child is attending summer school at Highland Springs Elementary, they don’t have to miss out on all the fun at camp – let them do both!  With our After Summer School Camp, students have the opportunity to learn during the day and enjoy camp afterwards!

Ages: Rising 1st – 5th graders
Times: End of Summer School – 6 p.m.
Dates: 4 one-week sessions beginning July 9
YMCA Member: $80 per week   Non-Member: $90 per week


Final Four is our post-camp experience* that happens the week after camp ends and before school begins. It runs Monday through Thursday at Camp Thunderbird!  We offer bus stops at Tuckahoe, Shady Grove, Downtown, Midlothian and Manchester. Come celebrate the end of summer at Camp Thunderbird with swimming, fishing, gaga, crafts, reading and a few more surprises!


Ages: Rising K – 8th grade
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: August 27 – August 30
YMCA Members: $183   Non-Members: $217

*Camp activities and availability will be adjusted due to staffing during this week.

Chickahominy Leaders In Training

The LITs of Camp Chickahominy participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to leadership development. Lessons focus on the progression from personal development and exploring many leaderships styles and learning what works for you.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $138 per week   Non-Member: $161 per week

Camper In Leadership Training (CILT) at Chickahominy

The Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) program is designed to teach and inspire rising 9th and 10th graders. Hands-on training experiences and professional development workshops provide the foundation of the program. Participants will learn basic safety, group control, games, camp best practices and engage in activities that provide valuable employment skills, healthy relationship and opportunities to lead.

Ages: Rising 9th – 10th grade
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 3 three-week sessions beginning July 2
YMCA Members: $240 per session   Non-Members: $265 per session
