Summer camp has come to a close.  But read below what exciting programs we offered.  Program offerings, prices and other details may change in 2019.

Registration for YMCA members begins February 1 and for non-YMCA members on February 15.

 


YMCA Teen Camps are typically for rising 6th – rising 10th graders, but program ages may vary.  See our list of amazing day camps in the list here, or view ALL camps at a specific branch by choosing the “Camps by Location” button.

 

Campers In Leadership Training (CILT)

The Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) program is designed to teach and inspire rising 9th and 10th graders. Hands-on training experiences and professional development workshops provide the foundation of the program. Participants will learn basic safety, group control, games, camp best practices and engage in activities that provide valuable employment skills, healthy relationship and opportunities to lead.

This camp is offered at YMCA Camp Thunderbird, Chester, Chickahominy, Downtown, Goochland, Midlothian, Northside, Patrick Henry, Petersburg, Shady Grove, Swift Creek and Tuckahoe YMCAs.

Ages: Rising 9th – 10th grade
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 3 three-week sessions beginning July 2
YMCA Members: $240 per session   Non-Members: $265 per session


Camp Thunderbird Leaders In Training (LIT)

The LITs of Camp Thunderbird participate in typical camp activities* but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to leadership development. Lessons focus on the progression from personal development and exploring many leaderships styles and learning what works for you.

LIT campers get to experience a few more activities than in Discovery or Explorers units.  Campers can expect Biking, Giant Swing, Riflery, Eno Village (Reading and Journaling), Maker Space, Open Programming, Unit Days, Association Meetups and Field Trips, Leadership Curriculum and more.

This program is located at YMCA Camp Thunderbird in Chesterfield County.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th grade
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions** beginning June 18
YMCA Members: $226 per week   Non-Members: $262 per week

*Camp activities and availability may be adjusted for weeks 9 and 10 due to staffing during these weeks.
**Does not include Final Four week (Week 11).


Chester Leaders In Training (LIT)

The LIT program focuses on personal development, goal setting and learning to work as a member of a group. The program prepares LITs for leadership roles at camp and in their communities. The LITs participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team-building.

A typical day at Camp Red Feather may include:

  • Arts: creative arts, camp songs & skits, and music & drama
  • Sports:  field games, gym games, and gaga ball
  • Archery and Shooting Sports: archery, slingshots and bbs
  • Nature: outdoor education
  • Boating: canoes and kayaks
  • Aquatics: swim lessons and free swim
  • Field Trips: twice a week

This camp is located at the Chester Family YMCA in Chester, VA.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $169 per week   Non-Member: $239 per week


Chickahominy Leaders in Training (LIT)

The LITs of Camp Chickahominy participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to leadership development. Lessons focus on the progression from personal development and exploring many leaderships styles and learning what works for you.

This camp is located at the Chickahominy Family YMCA in Sandston, VA.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $138 per week   Non-Member: $161 per week


Downtown Leaders In Training (L.I.T.)

A summer leadership experience for 6th through 8th graders. This program gives kids the chance to enhance their time management skills, teamwork, and set personal goals for themselves.

This camp is located at the Downtown YMCA on W. Franklin St. in Richmond.

Ages: 12 – 14 years old (rising 6th – 8th graders)
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $130 per week  Non-Member: $154 per week


Goochland Leaders In Training (L.I.T.)

The LITs of Camp Gooch participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to leadership development. Lessons focus on the progression from personal development and exploring many leaderships styles and learning what works for you.

This camp is located at the Goochland Family YMCA in Goochland, VA.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions, beginning June 5
YMCA Member: $169 per week   Non-Member: $193 per week


Manchester Leaders In Training (LIT)

The LIT’s of Camp Red Hawk participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building.

This camp is located at the Manchester Family YMCA on Hull Street Road in Chesterfield County.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions, beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $156 per week   Non-Member: $185 per week


Midlothian Leaders In Training (L.I.T.)

The LIT program focuses on personal development, goal setting and learning to work as a member of a group. The program prepares LITs for leadership roles at camp and in their communities. The LITs participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team-building.

A typical day at Camp Saponi may include:

  • Arts: creative arts, camp songs & skits, and music & drama
  • Sports:  field games, gym games, and gaga ball
  • Archery and Shooting Sports: archery, slingshots and bbs.
  • Nature: outdoor education
  • Aquatics: swim lessons and free swim.

This camp is located at the Midlothian Family YMCA on Coalfield and Woolridge Roads.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $168 per week  Non-Member: $224 per week


Northside Leaders In Training (L.I.T.)

The LIT program focuses on personal development, goal setting and learning to work as a member of a group. The program prepares LITs for leadership roles at camp and in their communities. The LITs participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team-building.

This program is located at the Northside Family YMCA in Richmond, VA.

DSS Accepted and Financial Assistance Available

Dates: 10 one-week sessions, beginning June 18
Member: $117 per week   Non-Member: $147 per week


Patrick Henry Leaders In Training (L.I.T.)

The LITs of Camp Winnipeg participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to leadership development. Lessons focus on the progression from personal development and exploring many leaderships styles and learning what works for you.

This camp is located at the Patrick Henry Family YMCA in Ashland, VA.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $158 per week  Non-Member: $183 per week


Petersburg Leaders In Training (LITs)

The LITs of Camp Petersburg participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to leadership development. Lessons focus on the progression from personal development and exploring many leaderships styles and learning what works for you.

This camp is located at the Petersburg Family YMCA in Petersburg, VA.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th grade
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $110 per week   Non-Member: $123 per week


Powhatan Leaders In Training (L.I.T.)

The LITs of Camp Powhatan participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to leadership development. Lessons focus on the progression from personal development and exploring many leaderships styles and learning what works for you.

This camp program will be located at Powhatan Elementary School.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions, beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $140 per week   Non-Member: $182 per week


Shady Grove Leaders in Training (LIT)

The LITs of Camp Shady Grove participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to leadership development. Lessons focus on the progression from personal development and exploring many leaderships styles and learning what works for you.

A typical day at Leaders in Training may include:

  • Camp Arts: artistic expression through camp songs & skits, music, theater, dance, traditional art and crafts
  • Outdoor Sports: archery (basic and advanced), sports & field games, teambuilding activities, gaga ball, basketball, soccer, baseball, ropes course and more
  • Outdoor Education: hiking, Wonders of Wilderness specialist, geography, topography, weather studies
  • Aquatics: water safety, daily swim lessons, and Friday free swim

This camp is located at the Shady Grove Family YMCA in Glen Allen, VA.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $196 per week   Non-Member: $250 per week


Swift Creek Leaders In Training (L.I.T.)

Want a transformational experience and still have a blast? Join the LITs of Camp Swift Creek and get the best of both worlds out of your summer! LITs (Leaders in Training) get to participate in typical camp activities but will also have leadership development workshops and fieldtrips. LITs have a big role in camp and serve as role models to the younger campers. Focused on service and team building, this program helps teens develop their leadership style. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to teach personal development and build lasting relationships. Join the best team around and have a summer full of impact and adventure at Camp Swift Creek!

This camp is located at the Swift Creek Family YMCA in Hampton Park, west Chesterfield County.

Ages: rising 6th – 8th grade
Time: 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions, beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $168 per week   Non-Member: $224 per week


Tuckahoe Leaders In Training

The LITs of Camp Tuckahoe participate in typical camp activities but will also have supplemental projects focused on service and team building. The LIT staff use an experiential learning approach to leadership development. Lessons focus on the progression from personal development and exploring many leaderships styles and learning what works for you.

This camp is located at the Tuckahoe Family YMCA on Patterson Ave in Henrico, VA.

Ages: Rising 6th – 8th graders
Times: 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dates: 10 one-week sessions beginning June 18
YMCA Member: $192 per week   Non-Member: $240 per week
