The end of the summer is upon us! What a joy it has been to spend the last nine weeks with your children. As we enter into the final week of the summer you and your children will begin to see many new faces around camp. We are excited for some fresh energy around camp. Lets finish out the summer strong and have lot of fun in the last week!

Camper Ranks Highlights

Week nine marks the end of ranks for this summer. This is your campers last chance to earn the highest possible rank in their area of choice.

Program Highlights

Campers love playing in our gaga pit. You can spot a camper who has spent time at gaga pit a mile away based on how much dirt they have on their body. Campers get so into this game and never want to leave.

Next Week Highlights

Next Week theme is Splish Splash. We will be doing some extra fun water activities throughout the week.

On Tuesday, August 20, the LITs will be going Ice Skating at SkateNation. On Thursday, August 22, they will be going to Belle Isle. Further details to follow.

Two weeks left of summer camp – time sure is flying by! As we begin moving into the last couple weeks of camp you may begin to notice some new staff around camp. These are our new after-school counselors that will be joining our team and learning the ropes at the YMCA. We are excited for some fresh faces and energy! Let me know if you have any questions.

Camper Ranks Highlights

As we move into the tail half of the summer campers are moving up higher in their ranks of choice. With two weeks left of the summer campers will try to reach rank five in as many activities as possible.

Program Highlights

Swimming continues to be highlight of each campers day. It is so fun to watch campers advance in their skills and gain confidence in the water.

Our Week 7 Campers of the Week were Aleciya C. and Chase B. Both are wonderful campers and a joy to be around. Their enthusiasm for camp is contagious to everyone around them.

Congrats to our Week 7 Counselor of the Week Foster S. Foster has been with Camp Winnipeg since he was camper age and has advanced through our program as a CILT and now a counselor. Thanks Foster for all your hard work!

Next Week theme is Rock n’ Roll. We will be dressing up on Wednesday in our best rockin’ gear.

On Tuesday, August 13 the LITs will be going to Capitol Building in downtown Richmond. On Thursday, August 15th they will be going to Skateland. Further details to follow.

Message from the Director

We are coming into the tail end of the summer! Only three more weeks of summer camp until the kids trade in their bathing suits and water bottles for backpacks and books. I am soaking up my time with your children, getting to know them, playing a lot of games and laughing all the time! One of my highlights from last week was the talent show. The dancing skills from all the children kept me entertained all evening. Let me know if there are any questions!

Congrats to our Week 6 Counselor of the Week Ellie M. Ellie is one of our most enthusiastic and spirited counselors. You can often find her around camp leading cheers and keeping her group’s energy high.

Next Week theme is Space Invaders. We will be dressing up on Wednesday in our best outerspace gear.

On Tuesday, August 6 the LITs will be going to Jumpology Trampoline Park. On Thursday, August 8 they will be staying in camp to do a service project. Further details to follow

Its Winnipeg’s got Talent week! This week is all about showcasing all our amazing camper talents. We will end the week with a talent show where each group will perform. I am loving how the relationships with your campers continue to deepen week after week. Please remember to send your child with a water bottle and closed toe shoes every day! Campers love getting to choose the activities they get to do for ranks. Last week we added basketball so campers can choose between even more variety!

Our Week 5 Campers of the Week were Ezzy E. and Tristian F. Thanks Ezzy and Tristian for being awesome examples of oour four core values – respect, responsibility, honesty & caring.

Congrats to our Week 4 Counselor of the Week Austin G. Austin does so many things around camp. He is often seen with our LIT campers or helping out in Music, Art & Drama. Camp Winnipeg is lucky to have him.

Next Week Highlights

Next Week theme is Ludicrous Luau. We will be dressing up on Wednesday in our best Luau and Hawaiian gear.

Next Week the LITs have a special field trip week. On Tuesday, July 30 they will be going to Bowl America. On both Wednesday and Thursday (July 31 & August 1) the LITs have the opportunity to take part in Best Buy’s Geek Squad Academy. LITS will be leaving camp on these two days at 9 a.m. and leaving by 4:30 p.m. to go back to camp.

I can’t believe we are halfway through the summer. Where has time gone?! Campers are settled into their camp routines and have moved into forming deeper relationships with their fellow campers and counselors alike. As the summer continues to heat up please make sure your campers come to camp each day with a water bottle! As always give me a call or shoot me an email with any questions or concerns.

Camper Ranks Highlights 

Last week groups 5-12 campers continued our ranks program. Campers got to choose between Archery, Soccer, Basketball, Music, Arts & Drama, and Wildness/Camping. As the summer progresses campers will continue to drive deeper into these activities to earn higher a rank status at the activity of their choice. Ask your children about what they are choosing to work on during this time. 

Program Highlights 

Last Friday campers got a visit from the YMCA ice cream truck. After lunch campers and their counselors went to the sports field and were met by the YMCA bus that was converted into an ice cream truck. Campers enjoyed their frozen treats, and this was a great way to end week 4 of camp!

Our Week 4 Campers of the Week were William R. and Cammie B. William is one of our youngest kids in camp in group 1 and Cammie is one of our oldest in the LITs. No matter the ages both display our four core values around camp each day.

  • Next Week theme is Winnipeg’s got Talent. We will spend the week rehearsing for our talent show which will be on Thursday July 25 from 5 – 6:30 p.m.  
  • Next Week LITS will be traveling to Bogey Sports Park on Tuesday July 23 & Tuckahoe Family YMCA on Thursday, July 25. 
  • Every WEDNESDAY is dress up day. Next week dress up as your favorite superstar!

Camp Winnipeg families!  Thank you so much for choosing to spend your summer with us here at camp. I feel lucky to get to spend time with your children and get to know them. My favorite part of the summer has been watching the kids make friends and try new activities. As always, let us know if there are any questions or concerns you may have.

Camper Ranks Highlights

Campers had a fun dress up day for Wild Wild West. Campers went around greeting each other with fun Western lingo and lots of YEEEHAWSSSS. We listened to country music and danced to the good old-fashioned Cotton Eye Joe.

Our Week 3 Campers of the Week were Madison G. and Truman R. Both incredible kids have a passion for all things camp and their smiling faces are a joy to have around camp. 

Congrats to our Week 3 Counselor of the Week Michelle A. This is Michelle’s first summer with Camp Winnipeg but has embraced the culture and spirt wholeheartedly. The kids love her warm and kind spirit around camp.

Next Week Highlights

Next Week theme is Animation Domination. We will spend the week playing games and doing crafts revolving around our favorite animated characters. 

LITs will be traveling to Ashland Skateland (Tuesday, July 16) & Enrichmond (Thursday, July 18). 

Every WEDNESDAY is dress up day. Come as your favorite animated character next week to earn a gold spirit bead.

Week 3: July 1 - 5

Hey Camp Winnipeg!  It’s hard to believe that we are already into week 3! It’s crazy how fast time flies when you are having fun at camp. This week at camp we have been celebrating America in all aspects of camp from our crafts and field games to finding red, white and blue in nature. We’re looking forward to beginning your ranks this week and hope that you enjoy selecting activities that help you explore all the things that you love to do! If you still have not had an opportunity to stop by and meet myself or your child’s counselor stop in and say hi, we’d love to meet you!

Program Highlight

We love hearing about how much our campers love swimming here at Camp Winnipeg! Each day campers have an opportunity to participate in structured swim lessons with our awesome instructors.Our students enjoy swimming with each other all while learning an important life skill.  

We hope that you all have a safe, enjoyable Fourth of July! We look forward to everyone returning on Friday!

Camper Ranks

Camp Winnipeg began ranks this week. Campers have had the opportunity to select the activities that they love doing! These activities include music, art, drama, archery, wildnerness, and soccer. 

Next Week’s Highlights

  • Next week will be Wild Wild West week. We will be showing our pride by dressing up in anything from cowboy hats to boots! Show your pride by wearing your coolest cowboy or cowgirl outfit. 
  • This week our LIT campers enjoyed playing laser tag at Skate Nation. 
  • Every Wednesday is Wacky Wednesday- Dress up day!
  • Have some fun and dress up according to the weekly theme- those who participate will earn the highly coveted Spirit Bead!

Week 2: June 24 - 28

From the Camp Director

What an awesome first week and a half of camp, it has been wonderful meeting and interacting with all of you and your children! I look forward to continuing those relationships throughout the summer. If you have not had an opportunity to come and meet me please stop by and say hello! It has been a blast watching your children make new friends and share great experiences together. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out at any time.

  • NO CAMP ON JULY 4!
  • Family Pool Party will be on Thursday, June 27 from 5 – 6:30 p.m.  Kids must be checked out of the daily camp program in order to participate.  This will be a great night to meet your child’s counselors and camp directors.
  • Make sure that your camper is wearing closed toe shoes.
  • Please be aware that no peanut butter is permitted in camp lunches due to camper allergies.

Last week we are excited to share that we had a blast on Water Day! Each group enjoyed playing on our awesome Slip and Slide!

LIT (Leaders In Training)

This week our LIT campers enjoyed watching Toy Story 4 at Bowtie Cinemas in Richmond. 

Campers will be touring the beautiful grounds and gardens of Maymont Park. Campers will observe farm and wildlife habitats as well as many nature exhibits. 

Next Week Highlights

Next Week’s theme is “Party in the USA!”  Wear your red, white and blue, stars and stripes or your best Fourth of July gear!

Every Wednesday is Wacky Wednesday and we can dress to the theme of the week!

LITs are going to Camp Hanover from 11 am – 2:30 p.m. for low ropes, learning about farming and animals, the climbing wall, and disc golf. They must bring a picnic lunch to eat while there.
