Week 10: August 20 - 24

Hello Camp families! The last week of Camp is finally here. This summer seemed to fly by and we are not quite ready for it to end! Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for the summer! We had a great time and we hope that you all did too! Enjoy the last bit of summer! Hopefully we will see you in afterschool soon. If not, until next summer!

Program Highlight

This week we are saying goodbye to our favorite counselors and our Camp best friends. It has been an awesome summer and we hate to see it come to an end. This week we have seen so many Camper’s pass their swim tests and seen all of their hard work pay off! We have had pool relay races and found a new favorite hula-hoop game to play on our stormy days. We are excited for two more days of fun together!

LIT Highlight

Our LITs tell me that their favorite part of the week was their giant LIT soccer game. Everyone participated and competition was fierce!

“COW” (Counselor of the Week)

Last week’s Counselor of the week was Mr. Shawn! Mr. Shawn has been working hard all summer keeping his Explorer’s group having fun! Shawn is always looking out for his kids and making sure that they are having the best experience that they can! All of our Counselors have been amazing this summer and Camp Tuckahoe has been so lucky to have such an enthusiastic and energetic staff. They are what makes Camp Tuckahoe so special!

Week 9: August 13 - 17

Hello Camp families! Can you believe that there is only one week of Camp left? The summer has flown by and I am not ready to see it come to an end. I hope I will be seeing most of you for our final week of Camp!

Reminders:

Thursday, August 16, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., we have our Annual Carnival Family Night.  Please some ready for lots of fun! Since we will need to close the parking lot off for the inflatables we will be having Rides In and Rides Out INSIDE on Thursday August 16.

We will also have a Kona Ice truck with Kona Ice available for purchase!

Program Highlight

Last week we had the most AWESOME giant slip and slide! We took over a big hill and slid down all afternoon! It was the Campers and Counselors favorite part of the week. Be sure to check out some of our photos of the fun!

LIT Highlight

We have loved watching the LITs grow and bond. They are continuing to work with the younger huddles and learn leadership skills as well as learn how to work best together.

“COW” (Counselor of the Week)

Last week we had TWO Counselors of the Week. Ms. Trenece and Mr. Matt. Ms. Trenece primarily worked with our LITs and knew how to stay calm cool and collected no matter what mischief was going on! She did a great job grounding her group and serving as a steady roll model for them. She was also always willing to work with any group and switched around for us anytime needed! Mr. Matt also works with our LITs and is so much fun. Mr. Matt is always ready to go the extra mile for his Campers and for the staff here and we appreciate everything he does for us! Last week he put on play with some of our Campers and it was a blast to watch. Thanks Matt and Trenece!

Next Week Highlights

Next week is our last week of Camp Tuckahoe! We can’t wait to close out the summer strong. The theme of the Week will be Game Show week!

Week 8: August 6 - 10

Hello Camp families, it is already week 8! Camp has been going full steam ahead and we only have two more weeks of camp left! Don’t forget that we do not have Camp Tuckahoe the week of August 27 – 31.

Reminders:

Next week we will be having our carnival family night on Thursday, August 16. Come by after Camp at 6:30 pm for lots of bounce house fun! We will also be changing our wacky Wednesday event to Thursday so that all campers have the chance to go to the carnival in case you can’t join us for family night. This will be our last family night event and we can’t wait to see everyone one more time before summer ends!

Program Highlight

It has been awesome to see our Campers swimming skills improve. This week some of our groups have all of their Campers out of the lowest swim level and into the three higher ones! We also had a surprise visit from our Tuckahoe Kangaroo! He hopped around Camp causing mischief. Be sure to check out our Facebook page for a photo.

LIT Highlight

Our stuffed creatures are finally being finished! Our LITs have done a great job helping to make our fun stuffed animals for our younger Campers to decorate and make their own. LITs have learned to sew and are helping put button eyes on our stuffed friends!

Last week’s counselor of the week was Ms. Emmarie. Ms. Em is fun and always full of energy. Ms. Em works great with any group and regularly works with a few different ages. She knows how to get down on the Campers level and talk with them, cheer them up, and help them understand any confusing situations. Thanks Ms. Emmarie for all that you do!

Program Highlight

Last week we had so much fun at Family Night! It was awesome to see some of our Campers get the chance to get up on stage and courageously show off some dance moves and vocals. We had some last-minute set changes and requests but we just think that made it more fun! Huge thank you to everyone who came out! It was awesome to see Campers and their families at Camp with us.

LIT Highlight

This week our LITs are truly being awesome (A-W-E-S-O-M-E) and helping our Arts Specialist create little individual stuffed creatures for our Campers. The LIT’s are learning to stuff and sew as they work together to put these little projects together. Once they are all completed our Campers will get the chance to individualize and make them their own with different faces and designs!

Last week’s counselor of the week was Ms. Kayla. Ms. Kayla is consistent and caring and keeps her huddle going strong! Kayla is always ready to lead a Camp song or put on a skit. What would we do without her endless energy? Thanks Ms. Kayla!!

Next weeks theme is Splish Splash Beach Bash! We are crossing our fingers for some sunshine so we can have some major water balloon fun!

We are halfway through the Summer and we are loving seeing some of our “regulars” as well as a lot of new faces this week! I am so excited to watch our Campers continue to make new friends and memories.

Program Highlights

This week we are going after the spirt stick with a force. The coveted spirit stick gets passed back and forth between the groups as they challenge each other to spirit competitions. Chants of “we’ve got spirit yes we do, we’ve got spirit how about you?!” can be heard ringing through Camp Tuckahoe!

C.O.W.

Last week’s counselor of the week was Ms. Sydney- Grace! Sydney- Grace is a counselor for Trailblazers West. She is always coming up with fun and interactive games for her campers. There is never a dull moment for her Campers and we wouldn’t want it any other way! Thanks Ms. Sydney- Grace for caring so much about your kid.

LIT Highlights

The LIT’s have been working on a teambuilding activity where they make up a basic game in in groups. It’s called the “game blue print.” Then they teach it to the rest of the groups and see what everyone came up with! They get a chance to play them and then see how the games all worked out. Eventually they will be able to teach their games to younger Campers!

Next Week’s Highlights

Next week’s theme is Tuckahoe’s Got Talent! Our goal is to have a talent show ready for our Family Night on Thursday. Let’s see what talents our Campers can show off!

Program Highlight

This week we have been having so much fun in the pool! We are really starting to see Camper’s swimming improve and Campers who started the summer scared of the water are excited to get in the pool and stay in the pool! We are really proud of all of our swimmers here and thankful for our aquatics team doing such a great job teaching them water skills.

LIT Highlight

This week LIT’s have helped Mr. Jonathan with crafts and worked with our younger groups to help them with the parts of projects that might be a little harder. They have also spent time trying to get to know each other better and trick each other with two truths and a lie. Tomorrow we will have LIT’s from a bunch of Camps here meeting up!

“COW” (Counselor of the Week)

Last week’s counselor of the week was Mr. Q!  Mr. Q works with our Explorers group and they were quite excited when he got his award!  Q does a great job of engaging and working with his group of mostly 5th graders.  When left to his own devices Q can generally be found in the GaGa Pit playing with his campers.  Thanks for being awesome (A-W-E-S-O-M-E)!

Week 3: July 2- 6

Hello Camp families! We hope that everyone had a fun 4th of July! Even though we have a short week here at Camp we are still packing in the fun! Thanks to everyone for working with us on these overly hot days and coming inside for rides out!

 Program Highlights:

  • This week every group got a chance to climb the rock wall and we had some first-time climbers get to the very top of the wall! We love seeing kids get out of their comfort zone and courageously climb even when they are a little nervous at first. Thanks’ to Mr. Devin for teaching us how to properly use the rock wall and making sure we are all safe!

 Last week’s counselor of the week was Ms. Ashley! Ms. Ashley works with our youngest group of Trailblazers and helps them to feel comfortable here at Camp. Ms. Ashley if always going above and beyond in taking care of her croup and showing them how much she cares! Thanks Ms. Ashely for all of your hard work! Camp wouldn’t be the same without you!

LIT Highlights:

This week LIT’s helped our Pioneer group with a portrait project at art! Today they are heading out on their LIT field trip and we can’t wait to hear how it goes!

Next week’s theme is Under the Sea! We hope to see some mermaids and mermen here with us at Camp on Wednesday.

Hello Camp families! We are already into week 2 of Camp and we are still having loads of fun! I hope everyone will join us tomorrow for our Back to Camp Family Night here at Tuckahoe. You’ll get a chance to meet some of the counselors and do some camp activities that your Campers do all week!

This Thursday, 6/28, is our first Family Night! Come hang out after Camp at 6:15 and see what we are up to all day! Its Back to Camp Night!

Program Highlight

Week two of camp has already been so fun! Today we are excited for some of our local law enforcement to bring their command center to show to our Campers!

LIT Highlight

Our LITs showed some awesome teamwork and building skills this week. During one of our many summer storms our Nine Square game was completely knocked over and torn apart by the wind. On Tuesday, our LIT team took it upon themselves to put it back together! It went from a pile of white pipes on the ground to a playable game again! They worked together to figure out how it was put together and to completely repair it! Thanks LITs!

Our first Counselor of the Week was Ms. Allison (that’s right we have TWO Ms. Allisons here this summer). Ms. Allison is a new Counselor this year and is doing a great job working with our Pioneers group! She is quick to volunteer for activities and keeps her Campers safe and engaged! Thanks Ms. Allison!

Hello Camp families! I am so glad that you are joining us for our very first week of Camp Tuckahoe 2018! So far, we have gotten off to a very fun and very hot start! Thank you all so much for working with us to get your paperwork turned in. We will be announcing the winner of our paperwork raffle at the end of the week! We have so much more planned for this summer and we can’t wait for all of the memories!

Program Highlight

We are off to a great start here at Camp Tuckahoe and we are already having so much fun! Today Campers will begin earning points towards their Olympic games! We are keeping the focus on teamwork and huddles will be able to earn points in: Core Values, Sportsmanship, Speed & Accuracy, and Teamwork.

LIT Highlight

We have a great group of Leaders in Training this summer and we are so excited to see so many of our 5th graders from last summer joining us as LITs now! This week LITs were given a “buddy” from our youngest camper huddle and they drew them a special card. The younger campers loved being made to feel special by the LITs and we overheard many, “I love my card, thank you so much, you are the best!” We hope the LIT’s enjoyed giving them out just as much as our little ones liked getting them!
