Week 6: July 22 - 26

Thank you all for joining in the fun at our Camp Shady Grove Talent Show! It’s always a pleasure to get to spend time with our families with all of the laughs and smiles we are able to share. We experienced our first rainy day of the summer this week and we were happy to have it cool down the rest of our week! Rain or shine – we keep the fun and adventure going.

Reminders:

  • Please bring a reusable water bottle every day to camp – we want to keep everyone hydrated with less waste!

Our huddles have been practicing all week for our talent show on Thursday night! Get ready to see a special performance from each huddle.

Camper Ranks

Our Creative Arts rank has been moving along – we started with the primary colors and are making our way through the different kinds of paintings there are!

“C.O.W.” (Counselor of the Week)

Our Huddle Two counselor – Ms. Rachel! She’s always diligent in her communication and is a pro with the bug spray and sunscreen each day. She’s always chatting with her campers and keeps positive spirits no matter the heat. We are thankful to have her on our team!

Greetings camp families! We’ve officially gotten halfway through camp and are still having a blast out here at Camp Shady Grove.  It has filled my heart to see all of the friendships being made and all of the skills learned so far this summer. My favorite part of the summer so far has been to see the enjoyment campers have gotten in being able to choose out of programming options to gain ranks – they are full of so much passion to learn! Our Music, Arts, and Drama rotation has started Talent Show prep for our family night next week!

Camper Ranks

Archery is a fan favorite! Learning the parts of the bow has been our first step in getting through our archery ranks.

“COW” (Counselor of the Week)

Our Huddle Eight counselor – Mr. Mitchell! We have LOVED having Mr. Mitchell with us here this summer at Camp Shady Grove. He continuously shows up with a smile on his face, has a heart to learn, and knows how to keep it fun with all of our campers!

Message from the Director

Thank you all for another great week at Camp Shady Grove! I have loved getting the opportunity to know each of your campers. As summer has gone on we have seen growth in each of our campers abilities whether it has been hitting a bullseye at archery, learning a new swim skill, making a new friend, or even busting out some new dance moves – we’ve seen it all! Please reach out with any questions or concerns, as we value your feedback here at Camp Shady Grove.

Reminders

  • Kona Ice will be coming to camp EVERY Friday for the remainder of camp! Please send $3 if you would like your child to participate.

Program Highlight

Every afternoon during our rides out, we have campers choice clinics! This week, we offered track & field, STEAM, dance/step, cheering, and drama! This gives an opportunity for our campers to participate in activities that they choose to in the afternoons. We have a talented bunch here at Camp Shady Grove!

Camper Ranks

Basketball has been our most attended rank so far! Campers have learned the sections of the basketball court, the objective of the game, and basic rules. We look forward to see campers gain the “Professional” rank!

Next Week Highlights

  • Next week’s theme is Wizards, Knights, and Princesses.
  • This week we will be exploring the wonderful world of make believe. Creating our own wands and defending the castle!
  • Our LITs will be attending trips to Maymont Park, Byrd Park, and Pocahontas Park!
  • Wednesday is WACKY Wednesdays! Please come dressed up as your favorite wizard, knight, or princess!

Swim Lessons at Camp

Hello camp families! A big thank you to such a continuous awesome start to the summer. It’s a hot one out there this week, but we are staying hydrated with plenty of water breaks. Despite our busy, action-packed days – we are keep the camp energy and enthusiasm alive out here at Camp Shady Grove! Please continue to communicate with me and the rest of our team to ensure the best camp experience for you and your families.

Please ensure all clothing and water bottles are clearly labeled with your child’s name!

Program Highlight

Our swim lessons have been off to an incredible start and we are already making progress. When asking our campers about their favorite parts of the day – almost every time we hear about swimming! We are thankful to have such a dedicated aquatics team that ensures a fun, but safe swimming experience!

Spotlight on our Huddle Four camper of the week – Cade! He showed up each day with a smile on his face, ready to participate, and exemplified our core value of respect!

Our Huddle Five counselor – Ms. Bri! Ms. Bri is such a wonderful asset to our team. Catch her on stage leading opening and closing council with a smile on her and belting all of our favorite camp songs. She’s got the camp spirit we all strive to have!

  • The year is full of so many things to celebrate – birthdays, holidays, and ourselves! Come ready with all of your energy and enthusiasm to celebrate all week long. Don’t forget – Thursday we are CLOSED.
  • LITs will go to the movies on Tuesday and Cobblestone Park on Friday!
  • Wednesday is WACKY Wednesdays! Please come dressed up in your best celebration attire or in red, white, and blue for our July 4 holiday!

Program Highlight

We’re having a phenomenal start to Camp Shady Grove 2019! We’ve created our huddle chants, made new friends, dressed up for our Aloha! Theme, and so much more.

Camper Ranks

Our ranks this year will all be done through camper choice! Each week the camper will be able to choose from a variety activities that we want to work toward certain ranks in and learn new skills. These activities include creative arts, archery, sports, music and drama, and nature.

For Week 1, Mr. Ronan, our Sports and Low Ropes Specialist earned the honor of Counselor of the Week (COW)! We would like to thank Mr. Ronan for all his hard work!  Our camp-wide camper of the week for Week 1, is Olivia Purefoy, of the LITs. Congrats, Olivia-we appreciate you and your ENTHUSIASM for camp!

Next Week Highlights

Next week’s theme is Barnyard Palooza!  Be on the lookout for our ranks and swim progress!

LITs will go to play putt putt, do a Belle Isle cleanup, and go roller skating! Remember our trips on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
