Camp Connections

Week 2: June 25 - 29

Campers swimming at the pool

From the Camp Director

We are getting into the swing of things at camp during Week 2! Our campers have enjoyed making crafts to go along with our theme of Exploring Latin America. We also had a blast with a special visit from the Laughing Place Farm petting zoo! Our campers got to pet and feed alpaca, goats, lambs, chicks and a bunny. Don’t forget to check out our Facebook page each week for photos and updates!

Reminders:

  • Don’t forget that if your camper attends camp next week, we will not have camp on the 4th of July!
  • Our first family night will be coming up soon after on Thursday, July 12, so mark your calendars for that!

Program Highlight

We have been enjoying a variety of activities this week at camp! Campers have been practicing their skills at archery, basketball, and soccer and letting their creativity shine at Creative Arts and Music, Dance and Drama as we explore this week’s theme of Southeast Asia. Swim lessons have been in full swing this week as well, and campers have had a blast in the pool. K-5 also had an AWESOME afternoon out at the ARC Park on Wednesday and Thursday.

LIT Highlight

Our LITs were in for a treat this week with two field trips- Roller Skating on Tuesday and a service trip to Shalom Farms in Powhatan on Thursday. Shalom Farms is a completely volunteer-run farm that provides fresh produce to local food banks! We are excited for our LITs to have the opportunity to give back to the community.

LIT will attend a field trip to the Rolling Skating Rink on Tuesday, July 26th (1pm-3pm).  LIT will be on a volunteer service trip to Shalom Farms on Tuesday, July 28th (1pm-4pm).  If they need volunteer hours for school we can sign off on them!

Week 1: June 18 - 22

From the Camp Director

I hope you have been staying cool and enjoying this first week of camp so far! Our campers have had a fun-filled week, packed with activities, but most importantly we have enjoyed seeing them reconnecting with favorite counselors, old friends, and meeting new friends too! Whether we are at swim lessons, archery, visiting the ARC Park on our field trip this week, or playing games with our groups, it is our goal to help our campers make lasting memories that will stay with them for years to come.

Please don’t forget that on Friday at pick-up, we will be located inside, giving you the opportunity to collect any missing items, pick up any projects your camper may have created, and collect their swim certificate. There are limited spots available in our remaining weeks of camp, so if you haven’t signed up and would like to come back another week, please do so soon!

Reminders:

  • Kona Ice on Friday ($1.50) during Rides Out
  • Remember to send a towel as well as a water bottle with your camper!

“COW” (Camper and Counselor of the Week)

Our counselors look for a camper who consistently demonstrates the core values of respect, caring, responsibility and honesty and nominate them to be recognized in front of all of our camp. There are a lot of contenders this week, and we can’t wait to find out which of our campers is chosen!

Counselor of the Week recognizes an outstanding counselor who shows great leadership skills and an enthusiastic spirit with the children. We recognize one amazing counselor each week—who will it be for Week 1?!
