Week 6: July 15 - 19

Week 6 has been a roaring good time down here at Camp Goochland. We have designed jerseys in the Art Pavilion, Played new sports from Golf to Noodle Hockey, and even met with the Amazing Family of Justin Verlander (pitcher of the Houston Astros Baseball Team). We also found a competitive side of our camp teams as we competed in spirit challenges all week! Next week we are switching modes and going medieval with our theme: Wizards, Knights, and Princesses! Join us for an awesome adventure.

Reminders

  • Pool Party August 8 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Goochland Pool 
  • Please have your camper arrive in bathing suits EVERYDAY
  • Please be sure that your camper is wearing tennis shoes, has a water bottle, and their bead necklaces!
  • We have also started a new tradition of a hidden Dinosaur around Camp Goochland, Please encourage your campers to be on the lookout!

LIT Highlight

Hello Parents! This week our LITs have been on two awesome field trips! The first to Pocahontas State Park for Swimming and then to Byrd Park to participate in a service project. Our LITs have been fantastic this week, and have also started doing Junior Lifeguard training with the pool staff! 

C.O.W. (Counselor and Camper of the Week)

Last week we recognized George as our Counselor of the Week (COW) and had two amazing campers recognized as our amazing Campers of the Week, and thus the tradition continues as the camper douse the counselor with water, mmmm Refreshing!

Week 4: July 8 - 12

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Week 5 of Camp Goochland is a real baryard blast! With a weekly theme of “Barnyard Palooza”, you already know we will be getting our hands dirty! Campers have created Nature Journals, Paper Mache, Binoculars, and Friendship Bracelets. We Learned how animals eat their food (ask our kids about that awesome skit!) and has an all out barn raising!

  • Please remember to have your camper bring their bead necklaces EVERYDAY so that they can store the beads they earn!

CAMPER RANKS

Campers had the opportunity to participate in choice programming this week at Camp Goochland! While at their first choice activity, campers worked on the YMCA of Greater Richmond rank booklets to improve skills and advance to their next rank level! Everyone had a blast while learning new skills in their favorite activity area. We have Soccer, Basketball, Slip and Slide, Art, Science, and Archery just to name a few!

Week 2 of Camp Goochland is rockin’ and rollin’! With a weekly theme of “Double Dare Slime Time”, you already know we will be getting our hands dirty! Campers have created slime, dough ornaments, and mud paintings throughout the week. Archery also began this week, as well as Ranks programming, where campers can choose an activity to learn more about certain skills and move up through the Ranks! We have loved having you all at camp and look forward to more fun in the weeks to come!

First week of summer camp has been a blast for campers and counselors alike!  Campers are already forming new friendships as well as strengthening bonds made in years past.  While it started a bit rainy, our ENTHUSIASM brought out the sun and we could not be more excited!

LIT Highlight

Hello Parents! This week our LITs have come in with enough ENTHUSIASM to go around.  They have begun working on the Leadership Development workshops along with their counselors.  Starting next week, they will have their Tuesday and Thursday morning Field Trips, where they will get to spend time with LITs from other YMCAs!

Each week of camp we will be choosing a Counselor, and two Campers (one boy and one girl) of the week, who have shown their caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and of course ENTHUSIASM throughout their time at camp.  Stay tuned for next week when we will have our first recipients of this most coveted award!
