Week 10: August 19 - 23

We are sad that this is the last week of camp, but we have had a blast these past 10 weeks! I hope everyone has a wonderful and productive school year!

Reminders:

  • Please make sure that your child has a labeled water bottle EACH DAY.  Safety is our number one priority and we want to make sure all campers stay hydrated throughout the day.  
  • Please make sure that campers are placing their lunch bags in the designated bins upon arrival each day.  Lunch bags will be distributed from that bin during lunchtime each day.
  • Campers will be in the woods for opening/closing each day.  We cannot guarantee that staff will be in the Pavilion throughout the day. Drop-off is from 7-9am each day. If you arrive after 9am for drop-off or before 4:45pm for pick-up, please come to the Pavilion to sign them in/out and then drive back to the woods.
  • On rainy days we ask that you come into the Pavilion to drop your child off and sign them in.  Doing so will allow us to keep everyone safe, and more efficiently sign-in.
  • Please apply sunscreen and bug spray to your child’s skin before dropping them off. Camp Staff will reapply after swimming.
  • Please check the lost and found bin (located in the Pavilion) in the afternoon if your camper has misplaced an item.  The lost and found bin will be emptied at the end of each week. Staff will empty the bin this Friday, August 23.
  • Please have your child arrive at camp with their swimsuit on underneath their clothes.  Doing so will allow a smooth transition from outside activities to the changing huts before swimming.
  • We ask that campers DO NOT bring toys or electronics from home.  The YMCA is not responsible for such lost or stolen items.

Summer fun at Camp Chickahominy is coming to an end.  Campers are enjoying their last days of science experiments, arts & crafts, archery, swimming, and open programming!  We are all looking forward to our Hawaiian Hulabaloo Family night this Friday, August 16 at 6:30 pm featuring a water slide inflatable and Kona Ice.  We hope to see you there!

Reminders:

  • Please make sure that your child has a labeled water bottle EACH DAY.  Safety is our number one priority and we want to make sure all campers stay hydrated throughout the day.  
  • Please make sure that campers are placing their lunch bags in the designated bins upon arrival each day.  Lunch bags will be distributed from that bin during lunchtime each day.

Campers are continuing to enjoy swimming and open programming.  They had tons of fun practicing their kickball skills in the field.  They are looking forward to enjoying the Hawaiian Hulabaloo Family night this Friday!

LIT Highlight

LITs have continued to enjoy their weekly field trips. Campers have visited Pocahontas Park where they enjoyed water activities!

Campers have really progressed in their swimming skills this summer!  They’ve enjoyed free swim and celebrating their progress each week.  Stay cool campers and keep having FUN!

We’re more than half way through our fun-filled summer camp!  Campers are working really hard to rank up in Sports, Music, Art & Drama, and W.O.W during open programming and specialty time.  Additionally, campers have significantly progressed in their swimming skills.

The rain won’t keep us down! Campers have stayed active during open programming, specialties, and swimmers.  They’ve enjoyed bonding with their counselors and getting to know other campers for the past few weeks.  Keep staying active and THINKING OUTSIDE campers!

This week at Camp Chickahominy has been HOT, HOT, HOT!  Campers have enjoyed staying cool at the pool and further developing their talents in Music, Art & Drama in preparation for this week’s Camp Talent Night!  Please join us for our second family night on Friday, July 19.  We will be hosting a talent show (showcasing our wonderful campers) in the Camp Chickahominy Pavilion at 6:30 p.m.

This week, campers have enjoyed getting ooey, gooey, sticky and wet! They are exploring their senses while expanding their knowledge of liquids through science experiments!  Campers are continuing to enjoy swimming and working towards ranking up in archery.  Keep having fun campers!!!

It’s week two, and we’re still having tons of FUN!!!  Campers have continued to enjoy their swimming and team-building activities.  They’ve also conducted science experiments and enjoyed learning new skills in archery!  Let’s keep learning and growing as we “THINK OUTSIDE”!

It’s been a fun-filled week so far during our 2019 camp kickoff!  Campers have enjoyed “thinking outside” as they get to know their counselors and peers, participating in nature, and arts & craft projects.  They have also had a blast at the pool during swim lessons. Let’s keep the ENTHUSIASM at Camp Chickahominy going!

This week, campers have enjoyed starting their swim lessons.  They’ve practiced getting comfortable with the water and safe play.  Ask your child about how much fun they’ve had swimming this week!

LIT Highlight

LITs took their first field trip of the summer to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.  They had the opportunity to take a tour of the museum’s new exhibits.
