Week 10: August 20 - 24

It has been an amazing summer and I have had a blast getting to know new campers and reconnecting with old campers! I hope everyone has a great school year!

Reminders:

Please check lost and found bins. All items not claimed by August 24 will be donated to the Goodwill.

Program Highlight

Campers enjoyed making volcanoes out of play doh and adding baking soda and vinegar to make their volcanoes erupt!

LIT Highlight

LITs have been discussing self-esteem this week. They participated in the “Herman Grid” activity where the group stands in a circle and the counselor calls out different statements. The group was asked to step forward if certain statements applied to them. They discussed the significance of perception and first impressions.

Please join us for our end of the summer bash on Friday, August 17 from 6:30- 8:30 p.m.  We will have water slides, New Kent Sno Shack, the Gaming truck, edible pudding slime, and water balloons!

Reminders:

Please send you child to camp each day with a water bottle. Also, please check the lost and found. Items not claimed by next Friday (8/24) will be donated to Goodwill.

The campers had a blast this week playing sponge water dodgeball in Sports!

I love seeing the campers so excited to earn beads for different accomplishments. I want to give a shout out to my buddy, Wyatt, who has 106 beads so far… GREAT JOB, WYATT!

LITs have been working on discussing how our choices affect the things that happen in our lives. They talked about coping skills when unfortunate events occur and how making the right choices affects outcomes.

Animation Domination week has been a blast from campers creating their own versions of Spongebob to creating play dough layers of the earth! Let’s not forget about how well campers are doing in basketball, reading, and swimming this week. Sharpening creative minds today will lead to well rounded leaders of our future!

I can not believe we are almost half way through the summer! I love to see campers enjoying their experience and creating new friendships. In order to make sure campers are safe, parents please make sure your campers have a water bottle each day and closed toed shoes!

Our lost and found bins are getting pretty full! Please make sure you check these bins each day if your camper is missing any items!

Campers enjoyed making their own constellations out of pretzel sticks and marshmallows this week in W.O.W.! Also, campers have been working hard this week in soccer to rank up!

LIT Highlight

LITs have practiced doing interviews this week. They also broke into teams to create a game for our red huddle (rising K and 1st). LITs created and facilitated these games!

Week 4: July 9 - 13

From the Director

Campers enjoy craft time at Camp Chickahominy.

We have been enjoying all of the sticky fun this week from making slime, oobleck, and elephant toothpaste! I can’t wait to see the amazing talents of our campers next week in the talent show!

Reminders

Parents please check lost and found bins each week in case your campers have misplaced something! Rides in is from 7-9am and rides out is from 4:30-6pm. If you are dropping off or picking up your camper between those times, please come into the building to sign your camper in/out.

Program Highlight

Campers were super excited to make SLIME! They learned about measuring ingredients while making ooey, gooey slime!

LIT Highlight

LITs are discussing basic life skills. They had conversations around building positive relationships with others by behaving in school, associating with positive role models, and making good personal decisions.

What another amazing week! I am so excited to see all of the new friendships that have been forming during camp. New bonds built will create memories that will last a lifetime, and we are psyched that those bonds are forming right here at Camp Chickahominy!

Reminders:

Please make sure your child has a labeled water bottle each day. Safety is our number one priority and we want to make sure all campers stay hydrated throughout the day. Also, please check the lost and found bin in the afternoon if your camper has misplaced an item.

Program Highlight

This week in W.O.W., campers have been learning about animal adaptations and how quickly some animals can adjust themselves to new climates and conditions to survive. They tested this by trapping an ant in a container with different objects to see if the ant would adjust or not. Ask your camper about the results of their experiment!

LITs have been discussing stress management this week. They have made lists of things that are stressful to them and discussed ways to reduce those stressors.

Week 1: June 12 - 22

From the Camp Director

From the camp director: What a great and HOT first week of camp! The campers have been doing an awesome job at showing ENTHUSIASM and learning camp songs! To ensure the safety and comfort of the campers, parents please make sure you spray your camper with sunscreen and bug spray in the mornings before they come to camp. Our staff will reapply (per a signed authorization form) the products after swimming. I look forward to another fun filled adventure with all of our amazing campers next week!

Reminders:

Please make sure your child has a water bottle, swim clothes, and a towel each day. Also, please try to label all of your children’s belongings (even clothing)!

Program Highlight

Campers have been using string to learn the correct formation of how to properly draw a bow.

LIT Highlight

This week LITs have been working on goal setting by creating summer bucket lists. They also learned how to play the Human Board Game, which focuses on team building and relationship building!
