Mission & History
The mission of the YMCA of Greater Richmond is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
YMCA Camp Thunderbird. Over 40 Years of Excellence
Since 1966, YMCA Camp Thunderbird has enriched our community through the service of programs that provide wholesome opportunities for children and families to share, learn, accept, and grow.
Our School Age Childcare Program offers parents peace of mind in knowing that their children receive safe, constructive, and enriching care in their absence.
Y-Guide and Y-Princess Programs offer fathers and children a truly unique opportunity to strengthen their relationships while learning together to appreciate nature.
Summer Camp, simply stated, is magic.
Over the past four decades, thousands of individuals have been part of the Camp Thunderbird experience, each in his or her own way. Former campers return to become camp counselors. Volunteers and donors give of themselves to make it possible for other families to receive quality services. Children grow up in our programs and then return years later to share Camp Thunderbird with their own children.
Looking back, we are inspired by the many memories formed on these grounds. Looking forward, we are enthused about those new memories waiting to be created.
Join us! What memories will we create together next?
