For many children, families and adults, the Y is a family. It is a place to come where they can learn, grow and thrive. But many need your help to benefit from this opportunity.
You know the faces of need in our community as well as we do: children in need of safe care and educational support; teens in need of positive role models and activities; and families who need a place to spend time together where they can grow in spirit, mind and body.
The YMCA of Greater Richmond is committed to meeting these needs and others through such programs as child care, camp, youth sports and health and wellness. Your gift improves a life. It keeps the Y open to all, making sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive through the Y.

A Message from the Annual Giving Chair
Hunter Crowder
Giving to the Annual Campaign is a unique chance to improve the quality of life for so many people in our community. The Shady Grove Family YMCA does an amazing job of tailoring programs and services to meet a wide array of economic, health, and social development needs for preschoolers to active older adults. It is an inspiration to see our community rally behind this mission on behalf of the Y.
Annual Support Campaign
The Shady Grove Family YMCA provides $550,000 in assistance to our members and program participants through reduced membership and program fees. Your contribution to the Strengthening Communities Fund keeps the Y open to all.
2013 Strengthening Communities Fund
Branch Goal: $158,000

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Preschool: Children who attend preschool not only perform better in school but also gain the tools necessary to succeed in life. In Hope Village, a Section 8 Housing Development, the Shady Grove Y runs a fully subsidized preschool program.
After-School Programs: A safe environment allows 350 children to flourish socially and academically while their parents work. Y camps continue child care in the summer.
YMCA Leaders’ Club: The program provides teens with opportunities for leadership and positive social development.
FOR HEALTHY LIVING
Pre-diabetes Program: Type 2 diabetes is 100 percent preventable. A dozen participants in each class learn about diet, exercise and behavior modification.
Water Safety: This free program helps 1,300 Henrico County students experience water survival skills to help prevent deaths by drowning.
FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Financial Assistance: Our doors remain open to all. We anticipate that one-quarter of those in our community seeking a healthy lifestyle at the Y will need financial assistance. Cost will not be a barrier to better health.
