Are you ready to get in the pool? The Y has instructions for swimmers at all levels and ages. Learn skills that are geared to your personal needs with lesson times that work with your schedule. Whether you are a six-month-old newbie or adult novice, we’ve got private and group lessons and plans to expand your water skills and comfort. You’ll gain confidence around the water with a community of new friends.
Exercise & Specialty Classes
The YMCA of Greater Richmond offers classes for all ages, all levels and all interests. From low-impact exercise and chair classes, stretching and strength training to indoor cycling, water exercise, and yoga, you’ll find a class that’s fun, supportive and keeps you moving. Grab your swimsuit, exercise clothes and tennis shoes and head to your local branch for a work out that works for you. The Y offers over 50 assorted classes each week, with a wide range of style and intensity.
Everybody swims and everybody wins with the Y swim team. Our seasons run from September through March, and our skilled coaching staff will help your child with stroke technique and endurance. Do you have a swimmer between 5-18 years of age? We’ve got a team for them! Participants must be able to complete the length of the pool without stopping, touching the bottom or holding onto the lane line or wall. Swim your way to fun at the Y.
Are you looking to lifeguard or babysit for extra money? The Y has a certification program that will develop your babysitting expertise, and our instructors will assist you in learning first aid, emergency procedures, good nutrition and bottle-feeding. The Y’s Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR/AED certifications will expand your horizons and income opportunities. In order to become certified, you must complete all prerequisites, pass all skill and written tests, attend all classes, and be a dedicated lifesaver! Earn money while doing important work.
