The YMCA is for people of all ages, abilities and incomes. We offer a variety of active adult programs including group exercise classes, aquatic fitness classes, games and social opportunities, medically based classes, and day and multi-day trips. Our programs allow older adults to remain active and grow in spirit, mind and body.
YOUNG AT HEART
If you are 55 years of age or older, the Young At Heart group is for you! It offers many opportunities for you to get fit and make new friends through a variety of activities, including:
- A weekly Thursday morning social time with bridge playing if you prefer
- Exercise classes designed especially for active older adults, including Silver Sneaker, low-impact aerobics, water aerobics and a walking group.
- Monthly lunches and local as well as out-of-town trips. Recently, we hiked in James River Park with an environmental educator, enjoyed touring Appomattox Court House Historic Park, rode up and down the mountain on a steam engine in Cass, West Virginia, and learned a great deal about Patrick Henry’s life while touring his home in Scotchtown.
- A free monthly newsletter keeps members up to date on planned activities and offer an in-depth profile on one of our members.
