Annual Campaign: Strengthening Communities Fund

For many children, families and adults, the Y is a family. It is a place to come where they can learn, grow and thrive. But many need your help to benefit from this opportunity.

You know the faces of need in our community as well as we do: children in need of safe care and educational support; teens in need of positive role models and activities; and families who need a place to spend time together where they can grow in spirit, mind and body.

The YMCA of Greater Richmond is committed to meeting these needs and others through such programs as child care, camp, youth sports and health and wellness. Your gift improves a life. It keeps the Y open to all, making sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive through the Y.

A Message from the Annual Giving Chair

Jasmine HiresJasmine Hires

I have been involved in the Y since I was 5 years old and am now the President of the Teen Leaders’ Club. I love the fact that I am now giving back to the Y and the Y gives back to others. My favorite film when I was young was the Lion King. This feels like the circle of life. I give to the Y, the Y gives to me, I give to the Y, the Y gives to me!

Annual Support Campaign

The Petersburg Family YMCA provides almost $350,000 in assistance to our members and program participants through reduced membership and program fees, and through such programs as YMCA Bright Beginnings and Learn to Swim. Your contribution to the Strengthening Communities Fund keeps the Y open to all.

2013 Strengthening Communities Fund
Branch Goal: $100,000
Annual Giving Chairs: Bob Simcoe and Jasmine Hires

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Before- and After-School: 69 children ages 4 to 11 will benefit from before- and after-school child care. Your gift enables parents to maintain gainful employment while their kids enjoy daily academic assistance, nutritious snacks, physical exercise and character-enhancing activities. We anticipate that three out of four children
will receive financial assistance to participate.

Summer Camp: 75 children ages 4 to 11 will have a safe, fun summer filled with caring camp counselors, new friends and the chance to just be a kid. Enrichment activities reduce summer learning loss.

YMCA Leaders’ Club: 13 teens will discover who they are and what they can achieve, reaching their potential through leadership development, academic performance, physical fitness and community service.

FOR HEALTHY LIVING
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA: 40 cancer survivors will receive guidance and support as they seek to regain strength and flexibility lost during treatment.

Diabetes Prevention: 60 individuals who are pre-diabetic will develop strategies for lifestyle change in a group setting.

Community Support: We anticipate that one half of the members who join the Petersburg Y in 2013 will need financial assistance to enable them to take part in our many programs and offerings. Cost will not be a barrier to joining the Y family.

FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Learn to Swim: We can prevent drowning. Two hundred sixty-five second grade students will learn to be confident and comfortable in the water, developing swim and water safety skills through this free program.

Teen Nights at the Y: Approximately 100 teens socialize, exercise and engage in team-building activities every week at our Wednesday Teen Nights at the Y, open to all teens in the community.

Service Learning: Members of our teen service learning clubs will have the support and resources to carry out projects in the community that benefit families, seniors and other
service organizations.
