A Message from the Executive Director

The Patrick Henry Y has seen many changes over the years. But the one thing that has remained constant is our ability to positively impact our community and change lives every day.  After spending time listening to key leaders in Hanover County, our Y started some innovative outreach initiatives– but the work has just begun!

Together with our community partners, the Y will help more children in our out-of-school time programming which promotes healthy eating, physical activity and academic enrichment. Just a few miles from the Patrick Henry Y are hotels and motels that children call home. There is no green space to play, no desk to sit down and do homework and no kitchen for cooking meals – things the majority of us take for granted on a daily basis.  Lack of reliable transportation and no county public transportation along with the cost, make it difficult for parents to enroll their children in the YMCA programs.  That’s where the Y comes in.  With our new Teen Director, we’re hoping to develop more educational and social activities for local youth to give them a fun, safe alternative when they’re out of school.

Finally, at the heart of what we do is, of course, helping people be healthier. We are committed to reducing adult and youth diabetes and obesity in Hanover County. And we want everyone to have access to our Y, no matter their circumstance. We will be OPEN TO ALL!

Please join me in supporting the Patrick Henry Family YMCA Annual Campaign and together, we can make a difference!
