The YMCA is committed to helping individuals with controlling and preventing diabetes. Our programs provide tools on living with diabetes in a small group setting.

YMCA Diabetes Control

The YMCA’s Diabetes Control Program is for adults who currently have type 2 diabetes. You will learn tools on how to manage your diabetes.

The program is:
• Led by a trained Lifestyle Coach
• 12 weekly sessions

Program Qualifications:
• Have an HbA1c blood value of 6.5 or higher*
(*The YMCA can help you determine this number)

Program Goals:
• Reduce body weight
• Lower HbA1c blood value score
• Increase physical activity

YMCA Diabetes Prevention

The YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program is for adults who are at risk for type 2 diabetes. You will learn how to reduce your chances of developing the disease. The program is:

– Led by a trained Lifestyle Coach
– A one-year program
– 16 weekly sessions, then 8 monthly sessions

Program Qualifications:
– Have an HbA1c blood value of 5.7-6.4* and BMI of 25 or greater
(*The YMCA can help you determine this number)

Program Goals:

– Reduce body weight
– Lower HbA1c blood value score
