A message from the Executive Director - Summer 2013
Hot Fun at the Goochland Family YMCA in the Summer Time
Summer is here – do you have a plan to make it one you’ll never forget? The secret is to make those months fun and meaningful, involve your friends and family in trying a few of these ideas:
• Just move! If you are interested in losing weight, it is a proven fact that the key is to burn more calories than you take in. Start slowly and hop on a treadmill for 20 minutes at a pace that is comfortable. Do this 3 times a week while watching what you eat and you will start to shed those pounds
• Meet with one of our personal wellness trainers and set a three month fitness goal. Our staff has a wealth of experience, expertise and have the heart to work with you one on one to help you reach the goals you want to set. Whether your goal is to tighten up, slim down or just feel better, our trained staff is here to help. Take that first step and ask our staff for an appointment. We are here to help you attain your goals and be the best you can be
• Get out with the kids. Our summers are literally filled with opportunities for every body and every age. A few of these opportunities include exciting camps, the outdoor pool, teen activities, family special events, sports, adult exercise classes, and a host of fitness equipment all to help you get moving along with your kids. There is something happening every day this summer to get your kids away from the television
• Experience the community. The Y is more than just a place to workout or a safe haven for children; we are strengthening the foundations of our community each day with a focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. The Y is a cornerstone of this community and a place where people come together. Beat the heat, come by and enjoy a cup of coffee one morning, visit with the staff, read a book or meet your friends and neighbors. There are many opportunities to “plug in” at your Y and support the community we serve
How can you resolve to be more active over the summer than you are today? What can you do as a family to impact your spirit, mind and body this summer?
If you don’t see something you want to try in our program guide and you need more suggestions, please don’t hesitate to speak with me or one of our wonderful staff members.
I look forward to seeing you “beat the heat” at the Goochland Family YMCA!
Jay Shively, Executive Director of the Goochland Family YMCA
