The Y is for social responsibility

Every day we are giving back and providing support to our neighbors through social services, volunteerism and giving.

Annual Campaign: Strengthening Communities Fund

For many children, families and adults, the Y is a family. It is a place to come where they can learn, grow and thrive. But many need your help to benefit from this opportunity.

You know the faces of need in our community as well as we do: children in need of safe care and educational support; teens in need of positive role models and activities; and families who need a place to spend time together where they can grow in spirit, mind and body.

The YMCA of Greater Richmond is committed to meeting these needs and others through such programs as child care, camp, youth sports and health and wellness. Your gift improves a life. It keeps the Y open to all, making sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive through the Y.

A Message from the Annual Giving Chair

Karen PropsKaren Props

I am honored to be part of the 2013 Strengthening Communities Campaign and proud to be part of an organization that has such a huge impact on our community. The mission of the YMCA is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Over the years I have had the opportunity to see how the Y has lived up to those ideals. From the child who has a safe and nurturing place to go after school to the stressed out parent who walks their first mile on the treadmill to the senior citizen who has a place to go to socialize, the Y touches all aspects of members and nonmembers lives.

The Strengthening Communities Campaign helps make these things and many more possible. And the Y does all this regardless of age, income or background. The YMCA is open to all! When asked to donate please search your heart and make a gift that has a far reaching impact in our community.

Annual Support Campaign

The Chickahominy Family YMCA provides more than $346,000 in assistance to our members and program participants through reduced membership and program fees, and through such programs as YMCA Bright Beginnings and Learn to Swim. Your contribution to the Strengthening Communities Fund keeps the Y open to all.

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
After-School: 175 children from 17 schools will benefit from after-school child care. Your gift enables parents to maintain gainful employment while their kids enjoy daily academic assistance, nutritious snacks, physical exercise and character-enhancing activities. Y camp continues child care throughout the summer. In our most vulnerable community, Highland Springs, 92 percent of school children qualify for federal free and reduced meals; ten of these children are safe and engaged in after-school care and summer camp at no charge to their families.

YMCA Leaders’ Club and Teen Camps: 15 teens will discover who they are and what they can achieve, reaching their potential through leadership development, academic performance, physical fitness and community service.

FOR HEALTHY LIVING
Parkinson’s Wellness: 10 individuals living with Parkinson’s will maximize general range of motion and balance in this six-week program that helps them maintain the functions of daily living.

Learn to Swim: 125 children will learn swim and water safety skills through this free program for second graders in Eastern Henrico County.

FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Community Support: We anticipate that one out of every two members who join the Chickahominy Family Y in 2013 will receive financial assistance to enable them to take part in our many programs and offerings. Cost will not be a barrier to joining the Y family.

Active Older Adults: 25 seniors will build community and reduce social isolation with Wii™ games, health screenings and more at our weekly meetings. Monthly luncheons with guest speakers bring 50 seniors together for fun, food, fellowship and learning.
